    1. Is it still useful to comment a story from Ellis Peter. It's only at the end that we understand the whole story and of course one can sleep happy, the good are rewarded and honored. That's just a good plot, easy to read and digest. You will leave it when your eyes are too tired to continued until the next time.Enjoy!

    2. I found this tale in the Cadfael saga to be extremely enjoyable as a reading experience, rather less so as a detective one.Cadfael lives in a monastery during the civil war between Maud and Stephen circa 1150 AD. He is a worldly man who fought in a crusade, then in late life decided to retire into a contemplative religious lifestyle. He is a healer by accomplishments and a detective by inclination, often partnering with Hugh Beringar the deputy sheriff, equal in stature to Cadfael in intelligenc [...]

    3. This 12th century mystery series by Ellis Peters take place in a fog of civil war, where the English and Welsh were raiding each other’s borders and supporting one or another claimant to the English throne: Empress Maud or King Stephen. In spite of the ongoing violence, the author suffuses her novels with a deep sense of peace and contentment in the monastic life. A monk from the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul at Shrewsbury, Brother Cadfael, the ex-Crusader-turned herbalist [...]

    4. After a brilliant start with A Morbid Taste For Bones, the Cadfael series seems to have devolved into a medieval Father Knows Best, with Cadfael being Father.Disappointingly, the author fails to provide the murderer with a good motive. The story concentrates so hard on the unjustly accused that, when a real cabal is uncovered, it feels more like a convenience than the reason for the story.Peters' motto seems to be, a man may smile and smile and be a villain. For in several of these books, the vi [...]

    5. Brother Cadfael is one of those creations I thank talented writers for. He lives, he breathes: underneath that cowl and tonsure,he is seriously sexy! Every Cadfael tale I've read has been incredibly engrossing, in the depth of character analysis , in thevivid evocation of centuries gone by. Peters makes one truly Care about her characters, and regret when the tale is over. Her heroines are just as fully drawn and fully blooded as the heroes. Perhaps the best element in these stories is the [...]

    6. I have loved the Brother Cadfael stories since I saw them adapted for Masterpiece Theater. I have since read them all and now 20 years later am rereading them. The Devils Novice is one of my favorites. I find myself back in the 12th century with all of it’s hardships, but also a sense of calm and order and simplicity of life. A nice change from the chaos of today’s world. I highly recommend this series!
